Q: I'm not really a morning person... Any advice on how to balance a morning beauty regimen, getting to school on time, and getting enough sleep?
Ruth: Yes, we're all different, so props for realizing your preferences early on in life. You'll find that being in tune with who you are will help you analyze potentially stressful situations (like you are doing) and come up with a less stressful game plan. So yeah, not 'being a morning person' and having to adapt to the requirement of getting up early in the morning (during this stage in your life, which is a whole 'nother article, smile) is the way of life--which doesn't always fit into our preferences.
So good job on not just 'checking out' / being lazy and wanting to embrace this challenge head on and be responsible! (smile)
#1- Simplify your routines: ID what really needs to be done. Different days call for different preparations--based on whatever activities you have going on.
#2- Utilize the day before: Make preparations at a time during the day when you are alert. (ex.- pack lunch, pick out an outfit, all homework / studying finished so you're not cramming in the morning, pack backpack, etc.)
#3- Stay organized: Recent InTheTimes.com article Closet Organizing and In the Times magazine article, I need tips on how to keep my space clean during the school year! include helpful advice!
#4- Stay on schedule: Utilize an alarm clock for everything! Be realistic with how long things take (ex.- if you know that usually you take 30 mins in the shower, don't allocate 10 mins). If you have no idea how long you comfortably (that means not rushed) spend doing what needs to be done, do a practice run-through on a Saturday or Sunday and keep track of your timing.
