Avalon "New Day" / Editor's Currently Listening To

Friday, February 20th, 2009 at 12:00 AM by Ruth Tynes / Online Editor / InTheTimes.com

Hi InTheTimes.com Girls!

Powerhouse Contempo-Pop group Avalon's single "New Day" is currently on mega-repeat! My fav lyrics? The chorus hits the spot! "It's a new day / Oh, it's a new time / And there's a new way / I'm gonna live my life / All the old has passed away / And the new has come / Thank God / It's a brand new day"

This is one of those songs that really gets you going for the day! Everyday is filled with challenges. Like Jesus reminds us in the Bible, each day 'has enough trouble of its own' (see Matthew 6:34) But, how awesome to know that with each and every new day that God gives us 'all the old has passed away' (see Revelation 21:4) thanks to the grace and mercy of our Lord!

Blessing!

Tori Smith Interview

ITT: When did your love of music start?

Tori: Since I can remember, I have always loved music. But I would say it was probably in my late childhood, right before middle school that my love for music began to really blossom. I play the electric and acoustic guitar. Right now I try to write songs, but I'm never able to get past the first chorus!

ITT: When / how did you decide that you wanted to sing professionally? Any advice / encouragement for InTheTimes.com girls who desire to be a professional singer like yourself?

Tori: I decided that I wanted to sing professionally when I was in fifth grade. After being in one of the high school musicals at my school, I started telling my mom, "I really want a record deal." That went on for about a year because I had no idea how I would even start on that journey. Then in my sixth grade year, I started taking voice lessons and that is when I started avidly pursuing a singing career. My advice to girls is believe in yourself ! Practice, practice, practice. It takes a lot of hard work. Know that if is meant to be, it will happen.

ITT: Above all, what is the goal of your music / concerts--why you do what you do, what you hope your songs will communicate to the listeners, etc. ?

Tori: The goal of doing music and concerts is to spread the Gospel. That is why I do this. We hope that our songs communicate honesty and transparency. Our music speaks the truth. It says that we are going to have troubles and hard times, life is not perfect, we are not perfect.

Jaime Jamgochian "Heart of Heaven" / Editor's Currently Listening To

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009 at 12:00 AM by Ruth Tynes / Online Editor / InTheTimes.com

Hi InTheTimes.com Girls!

Jaime Jamgochian's single "Heart of Heaven" is currently on mega-repeat! My fav lyrics? "You're the heart of heaven / You're the lover of my soul / You are high and exalted / And I worship You alone / For You are Holy, You are worthy / You deserve the highest praise / My King of Glory, how I love You / Hallowed be thy Holy Name"

When we think about heaven, sometimes we think about it in terms of selfishness...how we don't want to spend eternity suffering in hell, how we want riches and glory...but it is so important to see the Lord as the "heart of heaven" The heart is the lifesource, the center...we need to remind ourselves when we think about going to heaven that it's not all about us, being able to bond with the Lord is the greatest part of our future in heaven!

Have an awesome day!

Jeni Varnadeau / Something Changed Stories Behind the Songs --- Part Four

Miss You >>>

My only sibling was five years older than me and she was the best sister ever. She led me to the Lord when I was seven years old and she got me into singing, into French, into Christian music, and she even introduced me to my wonderful husband. She was a missionary and a huge role model to me.

A few years ago, she suddenly passed away due to a virus that infected her heart. It was obviously a huge loss, and it still hurts, and I will miss her always. Losing someone this close was a new experience for me, and what I realized most about this was that I can't fix this! There was absolutely nothing I could do. It had felt like most all other situations in my life, I was able to fix, change, or get my way out of or deal with it SOMEhow, but this -- nothing I could do.

That was a new feeling for me, I can't bring her back. But I can love on her kids and family, and miss her, and I definitely look forward to heaven!!

Stop Me >>>

It's easy to watch, especially in a big family, all of the choices that family members are making. There are often those choices made, that you don't agree with and you really want to tell that person you think they're headed down a really bad path, but you might not feel you have the right place to speak in to their life. Or, you know that if you tell them something, they won't listen, they'll just resent you.

Proverbs tells us that advice and wisdom should be welcomed with open arms, and that we'll only get wiser if we listen. I want to be and try to be someone that if I was headed the wrong way, that someone would say something, and care enough about me to speak into my life. We often don't feel comfortable hearing the truth, but it sets us free. I want to walk wisely, and be around people that will help me get there.

Hammer In My Hand >>>

I have learned over a long period of time, that I am a poor communicator. I can communicate from stage okay, but when it comes to articulating things to people I'm working with, and people that are working for me, I am horrible!! I've also learned that I make these faces, that look nothing like I'm feeling or thinking.

Like, for example, my "thinking face" and my face that I make when I am paying attention and soaking everything in, comes across as "I hate you and I'm really mad at you." So, even if I said the right words to someone, my face might say otherwise, and I end up sending a confusing, mixed message without even trying.

So, anyway, all this has resulted in me hurting a lot of people. I wasn't purposely trying to hurt them, but I communicated wrong and/or I was only thinking about myself, and I hurt people's feelings. This is my song to ask for another chance. I am working on it -- please let me try and rebuild this relationship.
